Peach Cobbler Supreme

It’s summer camp season, which also means that it’s Dutch Oven season! One of my absolute favorite things to make and eat at our week long camp is Peach Cobbler. Here is a recipe that will make the camp fire program a hit with dessert. This dish is also great to adapt and cook in the oven. I recommend serving it warm with ice cream.

Peach Cobbler

  • 1/4 cup butter

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 tbs. baking powder

  • 1 can (29 oz.) peaches, sliced

  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon

  • 1 cup sifted flour

  • 1/8 tsp salt

  • 2/3 cup milk

  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg

  • 1/2 tsp. lemon peel

Get your coals fired up and ready. Melt butter in your dutch oven (12). Sift together the dry ingredients. Add milk and stir well. Pour mixture into the dutch oven - do not stir. Top with peaches, including juice. Sprinkle nutmeg, cinnamon, and lemon peel over peaches, do not stir. Keep your dutch oven at 350° and bake for 40 minutes, or until golden brown.

Serves 6 to 8

If wanting to cook this dish at home in the oven, simply replace the dutch oven with a 7x11 baking dish.

Tip: Cobblers can be a mess to clean up in your dutch oven. To eliminate most of the mess, use a dutch oven aluminum liner of parchment paper.
