Utah Raptor

Today were digging in the past with the Wolf Den and doing some research on dinosaurs.  Living in Utah, we hear and see a great deal about the Utah Raptor.  After driving past a billboard dedicated to this creature who walked the earth millions of years ago, I decided to look the beast up.

Some fun facts about the Utah Raptor:

  • First found in 1975 in Moab, UT
  • More discoveries in 1991 (around the time the movie Jurassic Park came out in 1993)
  • One of the largest raptors that ever lived (ten times larger than Velociraptor)
  • Weighed as much as a polar bear
  • Could jump 15 feet
  • Could run at speeds of over 20mph
  • Lived 125 million years ago
  • 25 feet long from head to tail
  • genus of theropod dinosaurs
