Primary Colors

Elective 15: Mix the Primary Colors To Make

Orange, Green, and Purple.

To start... what are the Primary Colors?

Three colors make up the Primary Colors.  They are Blue, Yellow, and Red.

A great activity to do with your scouts is to make a color wheel.

Start off by gathering the following supplies:

  • White Paper Plate

  • Ruler

  • Pencil

  • Blue Craft Paint

  • Yellow Craft Paint

  • Red Craft Paint

  • Cup of Water (to rinse your brushes)

  • Small Tip Paint Brushes

Take your paper plate, pencil, and ruler and make your color wheel. Draw your wheel in the same manner as you would cut a pizza.  Make sure that you evenly divide the wheel into six sections.  In every other section place a small amount of Blue, Yellow, and Red paint. Now in the white section between each color, bring the paint from each side towards the middle.  Your section between the Red and Blue paint should have some Purple in it now. The  same for the section between Red and Yellow should have Orange, and the section between Blue and Yellow should have Green.
