Grow Something Green

Today's #MeritBadgeMonday comes from the gardening merit badge.

It's that time of year when the last frost is long gone and you can transplant your seedling into the garden without any worry of them getting frost bitten. this year our project involved pumpkin seeds.  On the first week of April we started pumpkin seeds indoors and eventually moved them to the outdoors after the last threat of frost. Eventually these orange gourds will end up becoming Jack O' Lanterns for our annual Halloween party.

While planting your seeds and completing your requirements, you can complete multiple at the same time.  Our advise is to plant your 100 seeds and get your ratio of germination.  After that, use some of the same seedlings to complete requirement 2.  If you do the merit badge as a group, have different scouts germinate different plants.  This way everyone will be able to pass of the requirements and have a great selection of plants in their gardens.

Do the following:

a. Grow six vegetables, three from seeds and three from seedlings, through harvest.

b. Grow six flowers, three from seeds and three from seedlings, through flowering.
